
MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, and was made popular by the UFC (as seen on T.V.) and other similar events. In this class we train without a gi(No-Gi). Instead, students wear shorts, and under armour t-shirt. Students are encouraged to bring a mouth piece, boxing gloves (check out www.fairtexgear.com or www.ringside.com), hand wraps (the longest you can find; I recommend at least 70" and mexican style wraps are best), mma gloves (again check out www.fairtexgear.com... hook and loop thumb type is best), head gear, shin guards and a cup.
The main focus of this class is to create a well-rounded fighter, but the class is not just for those who want to compete in MMA. Anyone who enjoys watching the sport may enjoy this class as a way to get into the best shape of your life, and learn all the skills needed to survive a real attack, from striking and kicking to takedowns and grappling.
We train with thai pads, focus mitts, heavy bag, spar, groundwork, etc. (other equipment). We work on defense and offense. We train takedown techniques and takedown defense. Safety is first on the list. Having fun while training is second.
This class takes place at the Cross-fit Diesel location on Saturday afternoon from 12pm till 1pm.
